I joined the MAC family in January 1998 to complete my internship and register as an
Industrial Psychologist. Fresh out of University, I heard about MAC Consulting from an exstudent, and they welcomed me willingly on board. Many companies I approached prior to MAC required experience, and were unwilling to offer learning opportunities to graduates. MAC had a different attitude. At that time, MAC was a new company with about 12 consultants, most of whom were dedicated to a project at Amplats called Project Breakthrough. The project provided me with a valuable opportunity to gain the necessary exposure I needed in order to develop my thinking, not only in terms of my professional expertise, but also in terms of business acumen and consulting - a skill that I appreciate
today and have applied in many different contexts. I remember the buzzword at the
time being “Y2K”.
Much of what we were doing involved Y2K compliance, and managing change as a result. Indeed, at the time it felt like major change was happening, and
something significant was looming that
was beyond our power and understanding.
Today, 11 years later, we made it and have
lived to tell the story! This is largely what
MAC symbolises for me. Culturally, MAC
has been consistent and continues to
attract professional people with
similar ideals.
MAC is still a learning organisation with
a positive attitude, and many consultants
have achieved greatness from a zero base, in the MAC environment. I am most encouraged to see that there are people at
MAC that have been part of the company
since inception, and they too have their
story. Present and future consultants
can only benefit from their wisdom and
experience in the industry.
The wonderful thing about MAC is
that they welcomed me warmly back
onboard over a decade later. I am greatly
appreciative of the opportunity, and I
hope to share with MAC and its clients a
large part of the experience that I have
gained in the interim, as I have no doubt
I will continue to grow and learn from the
people at MAC.
