MAC Matters
Induction
Sue-Mari Strydom

We spend our lives trying to fit into a specific mould, trying to portray certain strengths that society expects of us. In school, for example, everyone wants to be like the social butterfly, the sports hero or the maths genius, because that is what people perceive as success.
I, too, spent a lot of energy trying to fit the profile society sees as successful, behaving in a certain way, until came along Harry Steadman and MAC induction...

Although I could talk about the many rigorous workshops, case studies, and presentations that we worked through in our preparation for the consulting world, the overall theme of the induction was what made the most impact on me: focusing on our strengths and not our weaknesses. Be the best person you can be by using what you are naturally good at. In doing this, we first had to identify our strengths. We mainly used Marcus Buckingham’s book, ”The truth about you”, combined with our Kolbe and MBTI profiles.

We were all divided into teams of five, in which every team member had different profiles and therefore different strengths. What made the teamwork so amazing was that everyone had such an important part to play with their individual strengths. And although we all had our differences, as a team we worked together as one.

We all have a gap to fill on earth and, by being like someone else, this will never be possible.
