At MAC we recognise our place in a society that is filled with many less fortunate than ourselves. More than a responsibility, we consider it a privilege to be successful enough in order to assist others. To that end, we allocate a percentage of our annual net profits to various social response initiatives, all of which aim to improve lives.
In line with our philosophy that education is the cornerstone to securing a child’s future, we are proud to be associated with several great causes in this sphere.
We support the Rally to Read, which ensures that children in rural areas are given much-needed stationery with which to complete their schooling. In 2010 we sent two vehicles packed with supplies, so watch this space for the story and photos. In the mean time, read about our 2009 contribution here.
We have for a number of years supported the Alexandra Education Committee, which ensures that children from disadvantaged areas are given the best schooling possible. Read about our current contribution here.
Given our history in the mining industry, in partnership with TEBA Development, we have been looking for ways in which to assist children who have been touched by mining. Ikusalethu High School in Braamfisher is one such example: this school has 1000 learners and is in an area that has for many years been dominated by mining. In 2010 we are excited to be donating books for their as yet unused and unstocked library. Watch this space for the article and photos! In the mean time, read about the great work TEBA Development is doing here.
We have just started supporting Soweto Youth and Development Projects, specifically their work in providing preschool care and school preparation for children of poor and unemployed families who normally could not afford to send their children to crèche. Read about the crèches we support here.
We understand the role that agriculture plays in the South African economy and, more importantly, in providing a livelihood to individuals and families. We are pleased, therefore, to be able to support Amadlelo Agri in contributing to the transformation of agri business in South Africa through the training and mentoring of black farmers. Their vision is to transform latent community assets into profitable business, thereby providing poverty relief, job creation and food security. Read about the great work they are doing here.
